Patricia Lynn Henley Author, Writer, Speaker, Educator A fourth-generation native Northern Californian, Patricia Lynn Henley grew up in Sacramento and later lived in various parts of the San Francisco Bay Area. After a career in typesetting, paste-up and graphic design, she returned to her first love, writing. In 1995, at age 40, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Stanford University . During her time at Stanford, she won the Reader's Digest Excellence in Journalism Award. For nearly the next 10 years she worked at a twice-weekly small-town newspaper, the Sonoma Index-Tribune, working her way up from summer intern to news editor and earning a number of honors along the way. In April 2005, at age 50, she took a "leap of faith," leaving the newspaper to pursue a full-time career as a self-employed author, writer, educator and consultant. But Patricia Lynn Henley's life course really began to change in the fall of 1997 when she interviewed Sonoma resident Elda Del Bino Willitts, who at the time was featured in a documentary shown at the first-ever Sonoma Valley Film Festival. Patricia was intrigued by Elda 's wisdom and her long life spent in Northern Italy , San Francisco , Marin County and Sonoma Valley Despite the differences in their ages, the two women bonded and spent the next seven years collaborating on "The Sugar's at the Bottom of the Cup," a first-person account of Elda 's story, written to flow with the story-telling ease of a novel blended with the wisdom of 95 years of life experiences. The book was published in October 2004; Elda passed away peacefully on January 11, 2005 . Their jointly written book is her legacy, blending Elda 's insights with Patricia's storytelling abilities.
